My Healing Color - MIYAC for short
New theme for December and The blog for November 2024
Sharing this latest update from this blog site focussed on the empowerment of wāhine Māori and Pacifika to navigate urban spaces.
This mahi is an independent form of tautoko for Racism Prevention, focused on being a haven to our awareness and strength. We know the inner resources that sustain us. We have the mana inspite of living with the harmful impacts of discrimination in Aotearoa New Zealand. But we’re always present to the miracles for whakaora (healing) and Whakatupuranga (growth). It’s dependent on how Māori occupy the hot seat of racism in our country. By building Ngā āheitanga (capability) and Ngākau manawanui (resilience) we can protect ourselves and stand strong in the face of racial profiling, harm, and harassment—whether through surveillance, verbal or physical abuse, or other threats to our mana in public places and in the workplace.
Grow strong and well. Kia Kaha.

December Theme for Raumati MIYAC 2024 is a Whakatauki
Whakataukī:
“He aroha whakatō, he aroha ka puta mai.”
(If kindness is sown, then kindness will be received.)
This whakataukī encourages us to plant seeds of kindness within ourselves—whether through rest, care, or connection—because what we nurture will grow into strength and balance.
Reflection to ground us:
When was the last time I truly felt at peace? What contributed to that feeling?
What small action can I take this season to restore my wairua?
How does my connection to Te Ao Māori guide my journey to balance and healing?
Background
In July 2024, we decided to introduce a new spot for MIYAC. A theme for each month. In the hope we’ll have a focus for a way forward, or backwards if that’s necessary. MIYAC hopes the theme will bring a fresh outlook to the uncertain times of change ahead of us all. Lets be there for ourselves and the ones we love and care for. That racism can never diminish. We have what is steady and true, no matter what the challenges we face.
